The target is 45,000 validated signatures of registered voters by the July 3 deadline. That would be veto proof and the referendum would automatically be on the ballot. With between 30,000 and 45,000 validated signatures it would be up to the board of election to decide whether or not it goes on the ballot.

And the key word in the process is « validated ». The rules are very strict and signatures can be invalidated for details like spelling mistakes or the use of abbreviations (like “W.” for “West”).

Several decades ago my good friend Larry C. in New York ran a similar signature-gathering campaign to put an unaffiliated candidate (Norman Mailer) on the ballot for mayor. To be sure to end-up with a veto-proof 45,000 valid signatures, Larry targeted 90,000! And he achieved that goal in a mere six weeks . . . a pace of 15,000 signatures a week. (That is ten times the piddling 1,500 a week pace achieved by NYCCAN!) If Larry could achieve what he did on behalf of a controversial candidate like Mailer, achieving such results for a new 911 commission should be a slam dunk ! But while Larry deployed 100 canvassing tables at strategic spots, in front of major supermarkets for example, the 911 ballot initiative relies on just one table (albeit well-placed) and on signatures mailed in by those registered voters it succeeds in attracting to its Website who are not only equipped to download and print out the requisite form but also willing and able to accurately and diligently complete it and send it in on time. Larry thinks that with that approach they will be lucky if 25 per cent of the signatures gathered end up validated!

And in a city that must be teeming with potential volunteers for such a worthy and popular cause the bozos running this show have deemed it necessary to hire paid canvassers. To man one table?

For all these reasons I am now convinced that the NYCCAN ballot initiative is either a farce run by incompetents or a fraud, a false-flag operation itself set up to sabotage the signature gathering process, delay the day of judgement, and demoralize the truth movement. Or some combination of the two hypotheses.

I have consequently made a few attempts — unsuccessful thus far — to reach the movers and shakers in the truth movement to alert them to the impending debacle. They could then spread the word and turn the disappointment over the failure of a high-profile effort that had inspired such high hopes inside and outside the movement, into wrath against the perpetrators . . . and energy to begin a new ballot initiative, one that would have every chance of success. And I am hoping ReOpen911 will help spread the word!
